秦梨妹与李上游在劳动中建立了感情，梨妹的父亲秦更五嫌上游家底薄，决定为女儿另找有钱人家，通过收彩礼以便为儿子娶媳妇。梨妹对此非常不满，跑到公社告状。经过妇联陶主任的多方工作，又批评了说媒要彩礼的表姨妈，使秦更五认识到买卖婚姻的危害。一对恋人几经周折，终于美满地结合了。

Qin Limei and Li Shangyou fall in love with each other when working together,but Qin Gengwu, Leimei’s father despises Li’s poor family condition. He wants to get a daughter-in-law with his daughter’s betrothal gift, so he decides to find her a rich husband. Limei is so angry with her dad that she accuses him in the commune. Director Tao of Women's Union tries to harmonize them, criticizes the matchmaker asking for betrothal gift and makes Qin Gengwu realize the harm of mercenary marriage. After much setback, the lovers finally get married happily.
